About the role
- As an engineer on the Guest Engagement team at Toast, your mission will be creating the next generation of engagement experiences that help bring new guests into restaurants and turn them into regulars.
- You will design, build, and maintain high performing, flexible, and scalable Android solutions running on Toast POS hardware in thousands of restaurants.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain high performing, flexible, and scalable Android solutions running on Toast POS hardware in thousands of restaurants
- Ship features end-to-end, from design through rollout, monitoring for success and iterating based on real-world use
- Build great UX using best practices of modern Android development
- Be an awesome teammate who's all in on collaboration and collective success
- Create products and features that help restaurants deliver a best-in-class guest experience
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering stakeholders, and actively participate in Agile ceremonies
- Partner with team members and other engineers across the company to raise the bar for the Android experience at Toast
Requirements
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience with Android development in Kotlin and/or Java, with hands-on experience shipping production Android apps
- Hands on experience of modern Android tooling and frameworks is a minimum requirement
- Excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents (Claude Code or similar), and interested in pioneering new workflows with the team
- Comfortable reading and integrating with backend services (REST/GraphQL) and curious to work across the stack when needed
- Comfortable with ambiguity, agile delivery, and shipping usable software incrementally
- Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
- Strong on software development fundamentals — code quality, unit tests, clean code — and open to evolving your workflow with AI tooling
