About the role
- We are looking for a Content Engineer to help operate and improve the systems and workflows that power CarGurus content.
- This is a content-operations role with strong technical fluency where you will manage structured content in our headless CMS and related databases.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain a structured database of content, including records, fields, statuses, metadata, templates, relationships, and update schedules.
- Operate day-to-day publishing and refresh workflows across multiple content types, markets, and production queues.
- Coordinate work from intake through review, revision, approval, publishing, and post-publication quality checks.
- Configure and maintain Contentful models, entries, templates, and workflow states within established standards.
- Use AirOps, LLM tools, and related AI-assisted workflows to support content creation, enrichment, updating, and quality control.
- Review generated or data-informed content for accuracy, completeness, clarity, consistency, brand voice, and usefulness to car shoppers.
- Monitor workflow output and investigate issues such as missing data, incorrect formatting, duplicate records, broken links, stale content, or failed production steps.
- Track answer-engine optimization (AEO) performance and citation visibility across AI and LLM search experiences; monitor where and how CarGurus content is cited, and use citation data to improve briefs, content structure, internal linking, prompts, and workflow outputs.
- Partner with editors and SEO stakeholders to translate briefs, content standards, and search intent into clear workflow requirements.
- Maintain production trackers, documentation, QA checklists, and process guides so that work is visible, repeatable, and easy for others to follow.
Requirements
- Experience in editorial operations, content operations, content management, publishing, SEO content, digital production, or a related field.
- Strong technical fluency and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly.
- Experience managing structured content, databases, spreadsheets, CMS platforms, workflow tools, or production queues.
- A careful, methodical approach to data quality, content QA, and troubleshooting.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects or workflows with competing deadlines and dependencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical or process issues to nontechnical partners.
- Good editorial judgment and a clear understanding of what makes content accurate, useful, readable, and consistent.
- Comfort working with AI-assisted content tools while applying human review, fact checking, and quality standards.
- The ability to work independently on varied, routine-to-moderately complex problems and to ask for help or escalate issues when appropriate.
