About the role
- Lead a new function at Snorkel as the Director of Data Partnerships, owning the supply side of data partnerships end-to-end.
- Drive top-of-funnel and convert opportunities into real value through an entrepreneurial, external-facing role in a rapidly changing market.
- Perform hands-on, zero-to-one work initially, eventually building and leading a small team as the function proves out.
Responsibilities
- Own the strategy and long-term plan for data supply, including what is sourced, from whom, on what terms, and against downstream demand.
- Source and qualify holders of proprietary data and own the funnel end-to-end, handling both inbound and outbound efforts.
- Define and execute the qualification bar, personally driving opportunity sourcing and qualification at each stage with cross-functional partners in Research, GTM, Delivery, and Legal.
- Match opportunities to the right commercial structure and make the business case.
- Lead negotiations end-to-end at the executive level, including business terms and partnering with Legal on critical terms such as sublicensing.
- Manage partnerships past signature through activation, development, sale, and renewal.
- Establish standards, operations, and metrics for the function, including qualification gates, pricing frameworks, and standard paper.
- Hire and develop a small team against established standards and metrics as the business scales.
- Act as a key advisor to leadership with an opinionated view of the market regarding availability, worth, competing bids, and where not to play.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience leading commercial dealmaking roles—such as data or content licensing, strategic partnerships, in-licensing, or complex commercial contracting—with direct ownership of negotiations.
- Experience across meaningfully different business models or industries.
- Working fluency in content licensing, IP, and data rights.
- Proven track record of managing partnerships past the signature with quantifiable results like deals closed and value created.
- Experience building and leading teams with high ownership and autonomy.
- Solid analytical and quantitative skills, with comfort in building simple models to determine asset worth and defending assumptions.
- Passion for unlocking new capabilities with modern AI.
- Demonstrated interest and a strong point of view on the AI training and evaluation data market.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages from IC to executive audiences.
