About the role
- As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship while building scalable, reliable, and impactful systems that drive Airbnb’s growth.
- You will partner closely with product, data science, design, business, and other cross-functional teams to define the team’s long-term technical vision, strategy, and roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the technical strategy for trust and safety initiatives, ensuring alignment with Airbnb’s long-term goals.
- Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and partner engineering teams to develop effective, scalable solutions.
- Lead end-to-end project execution, ensuring high-quality delivery across the software development lifecycle.
- Provide clear communication of project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and partners.
- Champion best practices for reliability, scalability, and incident response, maintaining operational readiness for critical systems.
- Stay current on trends in Trust & Safety, and drive adoption of best practices and innovations within the team.
- Work with global counterparts to ensure the India team’s initiatives are aligned with broader Trust & Safety goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Overall 10+ years of industry experience, including 2–5+ years in engineering management.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale, secure, and reliable systems.
- Strong experience in leading technical strategy and building scalable engineering, data, or machine learning systems.
- Proficiency in at least one major language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Ruby).
- Demonstrated ability to hire and retain top-tier engineering talent.
- Excellent communicator - capable of bridging technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience setting multi-year strategies and aligning diverse stakeholders.
- Background working in fast-paced, agile environments with cross-functional teams.
- Passion for trust, safety, and driving positive social impact.
Preferred qualifications
- Expertise in leading AI/ML teams and delivering AI-powered solutions is a strong plus.
