About the role

  • We are looking for an Industrial Engineer to join our rapidly growing team in Quonset, RI, operating as a flexible resource for the site and holding a standing factory-macro remit on behalf of 3SI.
  • You will move across programs and bring data-driven IE rigor to production line and workstation design, capital equipment, site-level factory layouts, and material flow.
  • Working shoulder-to-shoulder with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Business Operations, and the Factory Services team, you will help get complex undersea hardware built and shipped to spec.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver core Industrial Engineering standards and capabilities to Quonset's production lines — capacity planning, labor standards, time studies, workstation and line layouts, and discrete event simulation (DES).
  • Deploy across production lines as a shared resource — partnering with each line's Manufacturing leads to scope the work, deliver it, and hand off cleanly.
  • Own site-level factory layout and material flow — plan and maintain the master floor layout and optimize how material moves between receiving, storage, lineside, and shared services as programs scale and new capabilities come online.
  • Specify, justify, and deploy capital equipment and tooling — define requirements, own the business case and capex justification, and support vendor selection, build, install, and qualification through to production readiness.
  • Lead cross-functional technical projects on behalf of 3SI — scope, schedule, and drive site infrastructure, equipment, and process-improvement initiatives from definition through execution.
  • Own operations health metrics and KPIs and build the tools and reports that communicate line and site health across the org.
  • Identify bottlenecks and constraints across layout, part shortages, staffing, and tooling, then drive resolution with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years past experience in a rate manufacturing environment and production-type role where complex mechanical and/or electrical assemblies were built.
  • Experience using real operational data to make informed suggestions and decisions.
  • Experience and demonstrated skills with AutoCAD.
  • Proven line/facility design: value stream mapping, continuous/one-piece flow, and workstation design.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles/implementation.
  • Able to read technical documentation (drawings, vendor schematics, CAD) and understand hardware processes across electronics and mechanical structures.
  • Understanding of the means and methods of how material flows around a facility including but not limited to pull systems + triggers, Kanban and MIN MAX calculations.
  • Experience modeling operations using discrete event simulation.
  • Working knowledge of an MES and an ERP (Oracle or equivalent).
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher in Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
  • Hands-on design of tooling, fixtures, or GSE (ground support equipment) for heavy or large-format hardware.
  • Data analytics knowledge and experience including the use of SQL to create complex custom queries, mining and joining tables from production and supply chain databases (experience with Palantir Foundry a plus).
  • Experience creating and owning program, project or production schedules.
  • Experience with Simio and/or Siemen's Plant Simulation.
  • Experience in a marine, subsea, or other regulated/harsh-environment hardware program.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees supporting health, recovery, and whatever comes next, available at little to no cost
