The Lead Application Engineer will lead and mentor a team of engineers while providing technical guidance and architectural direction.
This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining production-ready microservices and leading large-scale application modernization initiatives.
The position involves working within a data-first environment to migrate applications to Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.

Lead and mentor a team of application engineers, providing technical guidance, architectural direction, and code reviews.
Design, develop, and maintain production-ready applications and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs.
Lead application assessment, containerization, and migration from VM-based environments to Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine.
Guide application deployment and troubleshooting in Kubernetes environments, including Docker containers and CI/CD pipelines.
Develop and implement unit, integration, and API testing strategies.
Design and maintain application data-access layers integrating SQL and NoSQL databases.
Implement application observability practices, including centralized logging, monitoring, metrics, and distributed tracing.
Collaborate with platform engineering, DevOps, security, and architecture teams to establish engineering standards.
Plan and coordinate engineering activities and manage technical dependencies for a portfolio of 500+ applications.
Leverage agentic engineering tools like Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Gemini to accelerate development and automation.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Strong experience in application engineering, Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, application testing, and production troubleshooting.
Experience with application modernization, VM-to-container migration, and cloud deployments.
Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, application observability, and distributed systems.
Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.
