About the role
- As a Principal Infrastructure Architect on the Infrastructure Architecture team, you serve as the architecture team's partner to ZoomInfo's data engineering organization.
- You bring cloud, Kubernetes, networking, and infrastructure-as-code foundations along with hands-on depth in data systems to help teams build and run platforms well on GCP.
Responsibilities
- Establish infrastructure patterns for data workloads including streaming and messaging, operational databases, analytical stores, search, pipeline orchestration and processing, and open table formats.
- Build the data paved road by defining CI/CD and GitOps patterns for data jobs and pipelines.
- Establish performance, cost, and observability patterns to give data teams guidance to run stores and pipelines efficiently.
- Evaluate new technologies by running structured POCs of emerging data technologies and vendor offerings.
- Bring managed data services inside the perimeter by defining patterns for connecting vendor-managed data planes to the GCP environment.
- Support data consolidation and governance efforts by contributing infrastructure guidance to data engineering's work.
- Prototype and hand off by building the reference implementation, writing the ADR, and partnering with owning teams.
- Participate in architecture review by bringing a consistent rubric to weekly architecture reviews and expanding the standards library.
- Enable teams by hosting design reviews, workshops, and serving as an infrastructure consultant.
Requirements
- Influence and communication skills to present recommendations and get patterns adopted across engineering organizations.
- Cloud infrastructure foundation with production experience architecting on GCP and/or AWS, including compute and Kubernetes, VPC networking, IAM, and workload identity.
- Strong Terraform and GitOps skills, including designing and reviewing modules.
- Hands-on data infrastructure experience at scale, building and operating infrastructure under data platforms at multi-terabyte to petabyte scale.
- Depth in at least two data domains and fluency across the rest.
- Performance and cost engineering experience diagnosing and fixing expensive or slow data workloads.
- Development and operational depth to dive into code and test behavior under load.
- Technology evaluation experience running rigorous evaluations that separate vendor pitch from architectural fit.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Supported a lakehouse or data mesh migration from the infrastructure side.
- Implemented data classification, residency, or privacy/compliance controls at the infrastructure layer.
- Run graph or distributed SQL databases in production.
- Know the infrastructure demands of AI/ML data workloads.
- Built or applied AI-augmented developer or architecture workflows.
- Run or participated in an Architecture Review Council or equivalent governance body.
