About the role
- The Rack Integration Operations Engineer serves as a technical quality gatekeeper and operational partner for Cloudflare's hardware build programs.
- This role bridges the gap between engineering specifications and external contract manufacturing partners to ensure accurate BOMs and efficient production.
- The position involves modernizing internal operations by building AI-enabled automations to streamline repetitive workflows.
Responsibilities
- Review and validate complex BOMs prior to release to integration partners to identify substitutions and spec mismatches.
- Partner with hardware design engineers to resolve design change requests and BOM discrepancies.
- Evaluate build compliance against rack-level power, networking, server, and firmware architectures.
- Contribute to demand forecasting and materials planning for rack build programs.
- Oversee inbound and outbound logistics for components and finished racks.
- Serve as an operational point of contact for external hardware integration partners regarding build progress and scheduling.
- Contribute to vendor scorecards and KPI tracking for build quality, on-time delivery, and cost efficiency.
- Track hardware build cycles in Jira and lead project documentation and status check-ins.
- Identify manual tasks and use AI tools and LLM prompt engineering to automate operational workflows.
- Develop and maintain lightweight automation scripts for team adoption.
Requirements
- Professional background managing hardware vendor or contract manufacturing (EMS/ODM) relationships.
- Practical ability to evaluate rack-level technical specifications including power distribution, networking, server hardware, and firmware.
- Hands-on experience managing operational workflows in Jira.
- Practical experience using AI tools or LLMs to automate workflows or perform data analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred qualifications
- Background in data center infrastructure hardware such as servers, network switches, rPDUs, and enterprise cabling.
- Experience writing lightweight scripts in Python or Google Apps Script.
- Familiarity with global hardware supply chain and logistics operations.
- Experience with Oracle ERP Cloud, SAP, or NetSuite for BOM management and materials tracking.
