About the role
- KGW is looking for a creative, driven and curious news reporter who can shoot and edit his or her own stories as a multi-skilled journalist (MSJ).
- MSJs are a key part of the newsroom's coverage on both broadcast and digital platforms.
- The role involves tackling complicated stories, holding the powerful accountable, and pitching smart stories for same-day turns or longer-term execution.
Responsibilities
- Report, write, shoot and edit news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories.
- Consistently pitch strong story ideas.
- Maintain the highest journalistic standards in every story you cover.
- Report stories accurately and honestly, treat sources with fairness and empathy, and hold yourself accountable when you make a mistake.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field
- Strong understanding of journalism ethics and best practices with a minimum of three years of experience in broadcast journalism or a related field
- Experience with shooting video, video editing, and web content management systems
- Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
- Strong social media skills and presence
- Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work days, mornings, nights or weekends as needed
Preferred qualifications
- Experience producing and anchoring weather forecasts
- Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop
