About the role
- Cloudflare’s Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) operate at the intersection of product engineering and customer impact.
- You will be embedded within a strategic global customer's engineering team to build and deploy solutions using the Cloudflare platform.
- This role involves writing production code, shaping technical architecture, and directly influencing how Cloudflare products are used at scale.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a dedicated, long-term technical partner within a strategic customer’s engineering organization.
- Design, build, and deploy production-ready code and configurations directly into customer infrastructure.
- Own the account's technical success across the entire Cloudflare portfolio.
- Participate in customer engineering rituals, including daily standups, design reviews, and real-time incident response.
- Identify opportunities to accelerate the adoption of Cloudflare services.
- Surface real-world edge cases and product gaps to Cloudflare’s Product and Engineering teams.
- Establish and maintain trusted technical relationships with senior leadership.
- Maintain a regular on-site presence at customer locations.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience with modern languages like TypeScript, Rust, or Golang.
- Proven track record of delivering production-grade systems.
- Experience owning mission-critical services with real-world users.
- Broad technical fluency across the full stack, from frontend to backend and distributed infrastructure.
- Experience with AI-augmented development workflows.
- Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Ability to decompose complex business requirements into scalable, resilient technical architectures.
- Executive presence with the ability to engage with VP-level stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications
- Direct experience building on Cloudflare Workers or the broader Cloudflare Developer Platform.
- Previous experience at a fast-paced startup.
- Experience in a customer-facing engineering role operating within a partner’s codebase.
- A visible public profile, including open-source contributions, technical blogging, or speaking engagements.
