About the role
- BitGo is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve the ledger systems behind client balances, trading positions, and financial reporting.
- This role involves working at the intersection of software engineering and accounting to design double-entry ledger primitives for other engineering teams.
- The position requires ensuring new products are designed with financial correctness in mind from day one.
Responsibilities
- Design and extend the core ledger including accounts, postings, and account-type/ledger structures.
- Own the chart-of-accounts and reporting surface that connects engineering data to financial statements and downstream reporting.
- Work across the boundary between on-chain data and off-chain books including balance verification, reconciliation, and proof-of-reserve style mechanisms.
- Partner with engineering teams early in the design process to ensure new features correctly model legal entity ownership, ledger placement, pricing, and reconciliation paths before shipping.
- Design data models that can absorb new financial products such as margin, lending, staking, and tokenized assets cleanly without repeated painful migrations.
Requirements
- Real, working knowledge of accounting fundamentals including double-entry bookkeeping, chart-of-accounts design, financial statements, and reconciliation and audit requirements.
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with a track record of owning data-model design for systems where correctness is the product.
- Strong instincts for extensible system design, schemas, and APIs.
- Comfort reading and critiquing technical designs across multiple systems.
- Strong cross-functional communication to work directly with Finance, Data Engineering, and Product on shared designs.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in crypto or blockchain infrastructure such as on-chain balance models, custody, or wallet architecture.
- Experience with event-driven or Kafka-based service architectures.
- Prior experience in an embedded accounting architecture or financial-systems design-review role at a fintech or crypto company.
