About the role
- As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll architect, build, and scale the backend services, infrastructure, and data systems that support Robinhood’s next-generation crypto, web3, and wallet offerings.
- You’ll provide technical leadership to deliver a best-in-class trading experience for cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets—including perpetual futures—to customers worldwide, solving complex distributed systems and correctness challenges.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and operate resilient, highly scalable distributed systems and backend services across Robinhood Wallet, Tokenization, and Web3 platform infrastructure, with correctness, fault tolerance, and auditability as hard requirements.
- Drive the architectural strategy and technical execution bridging traditional financial infrastructure (brokerage, ledgers, corporate actions) with on-chain systems, including smart contract integrations, chain indexers, and DEX trade flows.
- Provide technical leadership on large-scope, ambiguous engineering initiatives, breaking down complex multi-quarter efforts into clear architectural milestones.
- Partner closely with Product, Compliance, Security, and cross-functional leadership to define technical roadmaps and deliver high-impact solutions.
- Champion engineering excellence by mentoring engineers, leading rigorous design and code reviews, and raising the bar for system reliability, observability, and operational rigor across teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining distributed systems at scale.
- Deep expertise in backend development using languages such as Go, Python, or Java, alongside advanced knowledge of cloud-native, event-driven architectures.
- Strong mastery of system design, distributed data modeling, concurrency control, and scalability tradeoffs.
- Deep care and architectural experience with correctness-critical systems—idempotency, financial reconciliation, ledger consistency, and designing for failure modes when money is at stake.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience—driving alignment across cross-functional partners, unblocking complex technical roadblocks, and mentoring other engineers.
- Strong interest or hands-on experience with blockchain fundamentals—EVM, smart contracts, wallets, on-chain settlement, or decentralized infrastructure—and an appetite to tackle cutting-edge technical problems.
