About fivetran
- Fivetran and dbt Labs are coming together with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together we're building the data infrastructure layer that moves, transforms, and adds context to data — from the moment it lands to the point where teams and AI systems depend on it.
- As we bring our teams and technology together, we're building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products our customers know and trust. It's a good time to join a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work.
About the role
- Product Finance covers two things: how our products perform, and what they cost to build, run, and support, with this role owning the cost and investment side as a finance partner.
- The Senior Strategic Finance Analyst will own the operating expense P&L for both Product and Customer Support organizations, including headcount plans, vendor spend, and annual planning.
- This position builds the portfolio view of product investment, cost of revenue, and cost-to-serve analytics while working closely with senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the finance business partner to Product and Customer Support leadership, owning their budgets and partnering on spend decisions.
- Own the annual operating plan for both organizations, including headcount and hiring plans, vendor and program spend, and quarterly reforecasts.
- Own monthly close, accruals, and variance analysis, covering budget versus actuals with clear driver explanations.
- Build the portfolio view of product investment, tracking what is spent behind each product line and its return.
- Bring cost of revenue and product unit economics into the investment view by working with underlying cost data teams.
- Build cost-to-serve analytics, including support cost by account and segment and the economics of deflection and AI-assisted support.
- Build business cases for new product investments, major roadmap decisions, and product retirement or consolidation economics.
- Co-own the Product Monthly and Quarterly Financial Reviews with the product top-line lead.
- Improve financial workflows through better data models, less manual assembly, and AI applied to recurring analysis.
Requirements
- 4+ years in FP&A, strategic finance, product finance, investment banking, or consulting, including ownership of a model or forecast that others relied on.
- Experience owning an operating expense budget or partnering with a non-finance organization on its spend.
- Strong modeling skills across both driver-based revenue forecasts and operating expense and headcount models.
- Working knowledge of software and subscription economics, such as ARR, NRR, ARPA, expansion, and gross margin.
- Comfort working directly with large and complex datasets, with SQL proficiency strongly preferred.
- Ability to turn analysis into a clear recommendation and present it to Product, Support, and senior leadership.
- Interest in how software gets built and what it costs to run.
Preferred qualifications
- Product or Engineering finance partnership at a software, data infrastructure, or developer tools company.
- Hands-on product margin, cost of revenue, or cost-to-serve analysis.
- Experience supporting a Customer Support, Services, or other cost-to-serve organization.
- Usage-based pricing, packaging, or monetization modeling.
- Planning and BI tools such as Pigment, Looker, Tableau, Sigma and lightweight automation in Python or SQL.
- Experience through a period of rapid scaling or IPO preparation.
