About the role
- The Site Reliability Engineer will serve as the frontline for maintaining fielded imaging systems, acting as the primary point of contact for field personnel and customer-support escalations.
- This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving issues across the full stack of deployed hardware and software systems, rather than traditional product development or cloud-based SRE work.
- The position involves shaping reliability and support operations for a small, high-trust team while working directly with the lead engineer.
Responsibilities
- Own the health and uptime of deployed imaging systems by triaging, diagnosing, and driving resolution for issues.
- Serve as the first and second line of response for support channels and customer-support pipelines.
- Build and maintain runbooks, diagnostics, and self-service tooling to reduce repeat problems.
- Reproduce, document, and hand off genuine software defects to Mission Software Engineers.
- Provide feedback to product teams to improve system observability, upgrade safety, and failure handling.
- Travel approximately 15% of the time for field support and deployment windows.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, field/systems engineering, or production support of deployed hardware/software systems.
- Strong Linux fundamentals, including troubleshooting networking issues such as IP, routing, VPNs, and connectivity in constrained environments.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across system boundaries without full visibility into every component.
- Comfortable owning a structured on-call rotation, including scheduled after-hours and weekend coverage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for remote troubleshooting with non-technical operators.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience supporting fielded or deployed systems.
- Experience with fielded hardware or sensor systems such as EO/IR or optical systems.
- Familiarity with sensor calibration.
- Scripting skills for diagnostics and automation using Python, Bash, or similar.
- Familiarity with Nix or NixOS.
- Familiarity with systemd service management and observability practices on Linux.
- Familiarity with incident tooling such as PagerDuty.

- Competitive salary range of $112,000—$149,000 USD
