About the role
- The Staff Data Scientist for Trust and Safety will shape the future of Pinterest's people-facing and business-facing products by applying quantitative modeling, experimentation, and algorithms. This role focuses on evolving the organization from reactive moderation to a proactive, metrics-driven operating system that predicts risk and improves content quality. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners to solve complex engineering challenges at scale.
Responsibilities
- Develop a deep, nuanced understanding of the Pinterest trust and safety platform, quantifying full funnel opportunities and risks.
- Lead projects on trust and safety opportunities across different funnel stages.
- Design and productionize robust, scalable ML and evaluation frameworks, including statistical measurement, product recommendation, and forecasting.
- Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation and communicate those to product engineering teams.
- Bring scientific rigor and statistical methods to product creation, development, and improvement.
- Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale.
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed.
- Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience analyzing data in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
- Proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data.
- Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, or Econometrics.
- Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity.
- Fluency in SQL (or other database languages) and a scripting language (Python or R).
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to explain learnings to technical and non-technical partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
