About the role

  • The Staff Software Engineer for Autonomy & Motion Planning will develop tactical autonomy software for unmanned platforms across air, land, sea, and space. This role involves architecting scalable software subsystems and leading the full development lifecycle to enable complex, multi-agent missions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tactical autonomy software for unmanned platforms to perform complex missions with minimal human supervision.
  • Implement and test behaviors for multi-agent coordination, target engagement, reconnaissance, and survivability.
  • Manage the full software development lifecycle from requirements capture to validation.
  • Champion a product-line mindset to enable reuse of behaviors across multiple projects.
  • Architect behaviors as scalable software subsystems interacting with sensor processing, state estimation, and actuation.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders, including vehicle integration teams and operational subject matter experts.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for software engineering across engineering, business, and sales leadership.
  • Travel to co-locate with end-users and other teams up to 20% of the time.
  • Act as the technical owner for entire software systems, including roadmap management and team coordination.

Requirements

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient in production-level C++ software development.
  • 7+ years' experience in software sub-system scheduling, behavior planning, task/resource allocation, motion planning, optimization, or flight controls.
  • Experience with collaborative software development tools for version control, issue tracking, code reviews, and release management.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and set technical direction.
  • Ability to manage full project lifecycles from concept to deployment.
  • Capacity to mentor junior team members.
  • Desire to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, mission-centric environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience across a breadth of technology readiness levels (TRLs) bridging research to operationally ready systems.
  • Experience with mission systems integration and supporting flight demonstrations.
  • Experience in collaborative mission planning, behavior planning, and synchronized teaming.
  • Experience with automated red force vs blue force tactics.
  • Experience in motion planning across various vehicle classes and kinematic constraints.
  • Experience in weapons target assignment, sensor target pairing, and sensor-centric control laws.
  • Experience in collision avoidance, geofencing, and safety-monitoring.
  • Experience in more than one operational effect such as strike, air combat, or surveillance.
