About the role
- The Staff Software Engineer for Provider Engagement will own the technical architecture for Zocdoc's provider engagement platform.
- This role involves designing systems that integrate ML models, building data pipelines for personalization, and ensuring product surfaces consume intelligence seamlessly.
- The engineer will lead complex cross-team projects and mentor engineers to drive operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Own architecture for major domain practice intelligence APIs, recommendation serving, orchestration layers, or AI-assisted management.
- Design data pipelines that compute engagement signals, aggregate practice profiles, and feed downstream systems.
- Integrate ML models built by Data Science into production model serving, feature pipelines, monitoring, and feedback loops.
- Define APIs and contracts between platform services and product surfaces.
- Lead complex cross-team projects and drive alignment on technical direction.
- Make build-vs-buy decisions for infrastructure components.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on system design and operational excellence.
- Analyze and decompose complex product challenges to drive sound design decisions.
- Work hands-on with the team and ship production code.
- Collaborate with agile teams of engineers, product managers, designers, and data scientists.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
- Experience building data-intensive systems such as event pipelines, aggregation services, or real-time data serving.
- Comfort integrating ML into products and taking models from notebook to production.
- Strong API and data modeling skills.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and break product vision into concrete technical milestones.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear design docs and explain tradeoffs.
- Track record of shipping high-quality systems.
