About the role
- The Air Dominance and Strike Aerostructures Engineering Team is responsible for designing and analyzing advanced structural parts for Group 5 air vehicles and missile platforms.
- Sustainment Engineers own the full development lifecycle, from conceptual to detailed design and analysis of primary and secondary structures.
Responsibilities
- Design and release structural repair solutions and repair drawings for fielded and in-production Fury air vehicles, covering both metallic and composite primary and secondary structure
- Serve as the on-the-floor liaison engineer for production and sustainment, resolving build issues and protecting configuration while maintaining schedule
- Partner with MRB analysis engineers to translate non-conformance dispositions into manufacturable repair drawings and work instructions
- Author and release Engineering Change Requests/Orders (ECRs/ECOs) to improve drawings, models, and specifications based on production feedback
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-repair principles to produce solutions that are cost-effective and easy to execute at rate
- Analyze recurring production defects and test escapes to identify trends, and drive systemic design or process changes to reduce rework, scrap, and cycle time
- Coordinate across Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Tooling, and M&P to develop and refine repair methods, fixtures, and inspection criteria
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance to manufacturing and quality teams on build intent, repair acceptability, and configuration control
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft structural design, sustainment, or liaison engineering, including hands-on production floor support
- Proficiency in CAD software (Siemens NX or equivalent) for generating repair and production drawings
- Working knowledge of metallic and composite structural design, behavior, and associated fabrication processes (forming, machining, bonding, assembly)
- Experience creating, reviewing, and interpreting engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience leading cross-functional root cause and corrective action efforts
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with technicians, engineers, and leadership
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
- Ability to travel up to 25% to vendors, production, and test sites as needed to support hardware builds and troubleshoot issues directly
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with MRB authority, non-conformance systems, and configuration management in a regulated aerospace environment
- Prior liaison or production support engineering role working daily with manufacturing and test operations
- Background in design-for-manufacturability, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement for complex assemblies
