About Cloudflare

  • At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.
  • At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

About the role

  • The UEBA team builds systems that ingest and evaluate Cloudflare One signals to produce high-fidelity user-risk events and maintain risk scores.
  • As a Systems Engineer, you will build and operate production services in this pipeline, owning well-defined projects through design, implementation, testing, rollout, and operational follow-through.

Responsibilities

  • Build behavioral detections across signals such as Access, Gateway, DNS, device posture, and data protection.
  • Make risk understandable by connecting detection output to event history, logs, and customer-facing investigations.
  • Design & Scale Infrastructure by architecting, deploying, and maintaining robust distributed systems focused on high availability, low latency, and horizontal scalability.
  • Collaborate across teams with Product and engineers in Access, Gateway, Analytics and Reporting, Logs, and other teams to agree on event contracts and deliver end-to-end functionality.
  • Ensure Reliability by participating in architecture reviews, capacity planning, and proactive system health monitoring to guarantee maximum uptime and resilience.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience building, testing, and operating backend or distributed systems in production.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one systems programming language (e.g., Go, Rust, C/C++).
  • 3+ years of practical experience with databases and data-intensive services (e.g., PostgreSQL, ClickHouse).
  • Experience reasoning about event-driven systems regarding message delivery, duplicate or late events, state, failure recovery, and safe changes to live consumers or APIs.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and an ability to work through technical decisions with product and engineering partners.
  • Experience using metrics, logs, traces, profiling, and experiments to understand production behavior and validate improvements.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with security analytics, fraud or abuse detection, identity, Zero Trust, SASE, or network telemetry.
  • Familiarity with Kafka or other streaming systems, Kubernetes, and high-volume event processing.
  • Experience with statistical baselines, anomaly detection, time-windowed aggregation, or evaluating false positives and detection coverage.
  • Familiarity with DNS, HTTP, authentication events, data-loss-prevention signals, or endpoint-security integrations.
  • Experience with distributed state, caches, object storage, or safe migration of a legacy production service.
