About the role
- The Test Tooling Engineer will own the quality and performance signal for PreForm, Formlabs' 3D printing software.
- This role focuses on building automated, measurable, and enforced quality gates to ensure performance and reliability in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Implement performance regression detection for KPIs including startup, upload, print generation, and crash rate.
- Re-architect the systemtest layer on the PreForm Local API to drive end-to-end scenarios headlessly.
- Build and maintain a pipeline for customer-file corpus testing to validate slicing and support generation against baselines.
- Manage Sentry triage, trending, and root-cause attribution for crash intelligence.
- Develop crash-reproduction harnesses to facilitate efficient bug fixing.
- Oversee test infrastructure including print regression baselines, CI flake management, and golden-file management.
Requirements
- C++ proficiency for writing integration and system tests against software internals.
- Python proficiency for tooling, harnesses, corpus pipelines, and API-driven test drivers.
- Deep experience with CI and automation, including Jenkins, test parallelization, and flake management.
- Strong observability skills using tools like Sentry and Amplitude to manage release health.
- Mid-to-senior level individual contributor experience with the ability to define test strategy independently.
Preferred qualifications
- Desktop application testing experience (GUI automation on Windows/macOS using Squish or Qt Test).
- Passion for 3D printing and emerging technologies.
- Experience in a fast-growing startup environment.
