About the role
- The Tooling Design Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day design and development of production tooling aids.
- This role focuses on creating tools, gauges, and production aids to support both new and existing manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop new tools, tooling, gauging, and other tooling aids to support production operations.
- Create designs and drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Analyze tooling performance and adjust designs to improve performance.
- Design tooling for CNC machining, turning, and additive manufacturing methods.
- Review technical manufacturing specifications to determine tooling requirements.
- Design for ergonomics when appropriate.
- Collaborate with team members to develop design solutions for production support.
- Evaluate tooling/gauge/aid performance to determine for-use worthiness.
- Investigate and troubleshoot process issues.
- Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external vendors during tooling fabrication.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
- Minimum of 10 years of tooling design experience.
- 10 years of experience using 3D modeling CAD software.
- Siemens NX / Teamcenter experience.
- Experience working with CAD assemblies.
- Good understanding of Engineering Drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience conducting design reviews.
- Proficiency with Microsoft O365 suite.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred qualifications
- Aerospace Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) experience.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Experience with Kaizen events or continuous improvement programs (6s, etc.).
- Experience with composite materials.
