The Lead Design Engineer will build the systems that power Samsara's product and scale the impact of the design team.
This role involves defining components, patterns, tokens, and guidelines for both people and agents to build with, while shipping interactive UI across web and mobile.
The position focuses on codifying principles and heuristics for high-quality AI generation to ensure system integrity and performance.

Develop core system components, evals, and feedback loops to harden AI design and code generation.
Govern design and code quality to prevent AI-generated errors from reaching customers.
Ensure system decisions translate into maintainable, high-performance code.
Build accessibility, responsiveness, and performance into the system by default.
Set clear contribution, governance, and deprecation models for the design system.
Collaborate with designers and engineers to incorporate feedback and usage data into future system builds.
Share AI tools, workflows, and tactics with the wider design and engineering teams.
Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles across the organization.

8+ years of experience in design engineering, design systems, product design, or front-end engineering.
Proven experience building UX/UI for web and mobile applications.
Portfolio, case studies, or code samples demonstrating shipped design system or component library work.
Strong interaction and visual design skills.
Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
Regular practice using AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Figma Make) with the ability to explain, review, and debug generated code.
Experience partnering with designers, engineers, and product managers on short cycles.
