About the role
- The Product Reliability Engineer will own reliability engineering for advanced IT hardware, ranging from PCBAs to fully integrated racks.
- This role involves translating operating conditions into reliability requirements, executing qualification tests, and driving failure analysis from development through production.
- The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to improve hardware durability, serviceability, and availability.
Responsibilities
- Define reliability requirements and targets for PCBAs, trays, systems, and racks based on mission profiles and service life goals.
- Drive design-for-reliability reviews using DFMEA/FMEA and physics-of-failure methods.
- Own reliability qualification plans from new product introduction through production.
- Develop and execute accelerated life and environmental tests, including temperature cycling, humidity, shock, and vibration.
- Analyze life-test and field data using Weibull and other reliability models.
- Lead failure investigations from symptom reproduction through physical root cause.
- Review supplier reliability plans and evidence for components, cables, and cooling systems.
- Work hands-on with internal and partner labs to develop fixtures, instrumentation, and test methods.
- Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to establish reliability screens and burn-in processes.
- Present qualification results, residual risk, and readiness recommendations at design and release reviews.
Requirements
- Hands-on reliability engineering experience with advanced IT hardware such as AI/HPC servers, networking equipment, or storage systems.
- Experience designing, instrumenting, and executing hardware reliability tests and debugging failures in the lab.
- Understanding of failure mechanisms in electronic assemblies including solder fatigue, connector wear, and thermal/mechanical degradation.
- Ability to turn mission profiles into qualification plans with defensible sample sizes and stress levels.
- Experience leading reliability qualification through development and production milestones.
- Experience working directly with component suppliers, joint design manufacturers, and contract manufacturers.
- Ability to analyze reliability and life-test data using statistical software.
