About the role
- The Senior Software Engineer will build and scale high-performance full-stack features for Deliveroo's New Verticals, including grocery and retail offerings.
- This role involves designing and operating web architecture at scale within a complex, three-sided marketplace.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend services and frontend components for high-traffic workloads.
- Lead architectural improvements and conduct code reviews to ensure system efficiency and health.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including Product Managers and Experience Designers to plan projects.
- Identify dependencies and mitigate technical risks during project execution.
- Influence the team's roadmap and technical direction by breaking down complex problems.
- Mentor colleagues to support their professional growth.
- Participate in the engineering hiring process to build high-performing teams.
Requirements
- Significant experience building web-based applications in a modern stack.
- Proven ability to design and operate web architecture at scale for high request volumes.
- Demonstrated ownership of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Experience with NoSQL backends such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch.
- Commitment to writing readable, well-designed, and thoroughly tested code.
- Strong collaborative leadership skills with a track record of guiding implementation choices.
