About the role
- The Imaging team builds and fields state-of-the-art camera and sensor systems deployed to solve real security challenges for the United States and its allies.
- As a Site Reliability Engineer on the Imaging team, you are the frontline for keeping fielded imaging systems alive and acting as the escalation point when a deployed system is not behaving.
- This is not a product development role or a traditional cloud-SRE role, but rather an opportunity to own fielded system reliability and ensure operational uptime.
Responsibilities
- Own fielded system reliability by triaging, diagnosing, and driving resolution for issues across the network, calibration, upgrades, or sensor hardware.
- Run point on escalations as the first and second line of response for issues coming through support channels and customer-support pipelines.
- Build and maintain runbooks, diagnostics, and self-service tooling that reduce repeat problems and shrink support load over time.
- Hold the boundary with engineering by cleanly reproducing, documenting, and handing off genuine software defects to Mission Software Engineers.
- Feed reliability back into the product by turning field lessons into signals that improve observability, upgrade safety, and failure graceful handling.
- Travel approximately 20% of the time for field support and deployment windows.
Requirements
- 3+ years in SRE, DevOps, field/systems engineering, or production support of deployed hardware/software systems with real ownership after shipping.
- Strong Linux fundamentals, including comfort troubleshooting real networking issues such as IP, routing, VPNs, and connectivity in constrained or field environments.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve issues across system boundaries like networking, services, and hardware interaction without full visibility into every component.
- Comfortable owning a structured on-call rotation, including scheduled after-hours and weekend coverage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to run remote troubleshooting sessions with non-technical operators and document events.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience supporting fielded or deployed systems, not just development environments.
- Experience with fielded hardware or sensor systems (EO/IR, optical, or similar), including familiarity with sensor calibration.
- Scripting for diagnostics and automation (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Familiarity with Nix or NixOS.
- Familiarity with systemd service management and observability practices on Linux.
- Familiarity with incident tooling such as PagerDuty or equivalent.
Benefits
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees
- Top-tier benefits for full-time employees supporting health, recovery, and whatever comes next
