About the role

  • As a Software Engineer on the Android team within Passport & Commerce at Airbnb, you will build the Android experiences that bring various account features to life for millions of guests and hosts.
  • You'll own well-scoped features from technical design through launch, working closely with your backend, iOS, and design counterparts.
  • Success in this role looks like shipping reliable, performant, and polished Android experiences that keep parity with iOS and web surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Android features using modern, declarative UI and unidirectional state architecture
  • Partner with product and design to turn new concepts into polished, accessible Android experiences
  • Collaborate with backend, iOS, and web engineers to keep feature behavior and data consistent across platforms
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code, and actively participate in code and design reviews
  • Learn from and collaborate with senior engineers on the team, and contribute to shared Android patterns and best practices as the team scales
  • Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, performance, and reliability issues affecting the Android app

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional Android engineering experience, including shipping features in a large-scale, production consumer app
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android architecture, including declarative UI (e.g., Jetpack Compose), unidirectional state management (MVI/MVVM), and dependency injection
  • Experience working with backend and other platform (iOS and web) engineers to integrate APIs and keep cross-platform experiences consistent
  • A track record of delivering features from technical design through launch and iteration, with growing scope and independence
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, and a habit of seeking and acting on feedback
  • Comfort operating with some ambiguity, including on a newly formed team establishing new surfaces for the first time
  • Solid understanding of mobile app performance, accessibility, and release/CI practices for a large-scale consumer app
