SpaceX is looking for an experienced Network Automation Engineer to build the tools that support a large and growing network infrastructure, including live data center build environments.
This employee will be a member of the IT Network Engineering team, which is responsible for maintaining a stable, reliable, and diverse network supporting the design, manufacturing, and launching of rockets, spacecraft, satellites, and human spaceflight.

Build network automation tools to support switch configurations, config backups, software updates, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
Create Python scripts to automate manual network processes.
Measure, maintain, and improve the uptime and performance of the network.
Act as technical product owner for infrastructure tools and software used by the network engineering team.
Scale networks with automation and operational improvements.
Collaborate with network engineers to create operable and maintainable infrastructure.
Provide mentorship to junior engineers.

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or other STEM discipline and 5+ years of professional network automation, network engineering, or site reliability engineering experience; OR 8+ years of network automation experience and high school diploma or equivalency certificate in lieu of a degree.
Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Ability to lift heavy objects up to 35 lbs. unassisted.

Networking protocols and traffic types: TCP, IPv4/IPv6, voice, video, broadcast, and streaming.
Linux operating systems.
Automation in Python, Go, shell, bash, and/or other languages.
Source control tools such as Git or Subversion.
Managing hundreds to thousands of network assets in an automated environment.
Puppet, Ansible, or other automation frameworks.
Ability to run projects independently.
Understanding of fundamental networking.
