About the role
- The Staff Data Scientist will provide technical leadership within the Claims team, focusing on automating the claims journey through traditional machine learning and Generative AI.
- This role involves designing and shipping production-grade AI systems while collaborating with Product and Engineering to ensure scalable, robust, and sustainable decisioning solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for data science across Claims Fraud, shaping risk decisioning and fraud detection strategies.
- Design, build, and iterate on production ML and Generative AI/LLM systems for claims validation and automation.
- Collaborate with Claims data scientists to implement system-level thinking for models, data, and workflows.
- Identify architectural improvements to scale decisioning and reduce time-to-production.
- Advocate for platform and tooling investments, including monitoring, feedback loops, and QA.
- Ensure technical solutions align with the multi-year vision for automated claims handling.
- Set high standards for statistical rigour, experimentation, and measurement.
- Communicate Claims performance and uncertainty to senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Significant commercial experience delivering end-to-end Machine Learning solutions from problem framing to production deployment.
- Hands-on experience building and shipping Generative AI systems in production, including evaluation and safety considerations.
- Strong statistical and modelling foundation with experience in risk-based decisioning under uncertainty.
- Proven ability to influence technical direction across Data Science and Engineering.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate trade-offs and challenge proposals constructively.
