About the role
- The Senior Director of Design for Fortnite will lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to guide game modes from ideation to ship.
- This role involves defining vision and business goals, managing the design team, and making critical decisions regarding quality and production scope.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior leadership to define vision and business goals for Fortnite seasons and shooter modes.
- Manage a design team and hone the design craft for Fortnite.
- Hold and communicate design vision across the company to inspire the team.
- Oversee design and development from ideation through production.
- Establish design and system roadmaps for multiple seasons.
- Work with Product Managers and Analytics teams to translate player metrics and marketplace data into actionable goals.
- Collaborate with Production, discipline leads, and HR on staffing, feature scope, milestones, and hiring.
- Monitor the culture and performance of the overall Fortnite development organization.
- Mentor and empower the design team to make independent, solid decisions.
- Foster curiosity and healthy risk-taking within the design team.
Requirements
- Experience leading game teams from a director or other high-level design leadership perspective.
- Rich background in game systems that operate at scale.
- Expert-level background in a creative craft.
- Deep understanding of game mechanics and what creates fun, immersive experiences.
- Keen understanding of the Battle Royale genre.
- Passion for applying oneself to highly complicated problem spaces.
- Excellent soft skills for navigating large, multidisciplinary, and distributed teams.
- Passion for creatively shaping a product beyond the game team.
