The Identity team at Affirm is responsible for KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning for all markets outside North America.
This Staff Software Engineer role focuses on shaping the core Identity platform to meet international market dynamics, customer expectations, and compliance requirements.

Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale.
Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
Act as a force-multiplier through the definition and advocacy of technical solutions and operational processes.
Take ownership of team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage, playbooks, and alerting.
Foster a culture of quality by setting code review and design standards.
Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
Experience with Python or Kotlin.
Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems.
Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality.
Ability to define technical and execution plans.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
