About the role
- Scale AI is seeking a Public Sector Lead for Central Government based in London to build the business from the front and own commercial relationships across civilian departments.
- This critical role reports directly to the new Public Sector leader, requiring the individual to carry a number, win deals personally, and build a small team as the work grows.
Responsibilities
- Own the commercial plan and pipeline for UK civilian central government
- Find, shape, and close deals yourself, from the first conversation through to contract and into delivery
- Use existing relationships across departments like HMRC, DWP, and NHS
- Work the frameworks, tenders, and teaming, determining which route to market is worth the effort
- Act as a credible counterpart to senior civil servants and translate their needs into deliverable work
- Stay close to product and delivery teams to ensure what is sold aligns with what is built
- Hire and lead a small team over time
- Help shape the wider UK public sector plan with the UK Public Sector Lead
Requirements
- Sold and delivered technology or transformation work to UK civilian central government, either from a vendor or from inside government
- Know at least one major department well (e.g. HMRC, DWP, or NHS) and understand how it buys
- Understand public sector procurement including frameworks, tenders, and buying that runs through many stakeholders
- Experience opening doors, running complex pursuits, and owning the result
- Relationships with senior people across departments
- Ability to do best work when things are ambiguous and moving quickly
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with AI or data-heavy platforms
- Regulated, mission-critical government programmes
- Experience building or running a small go to market team before
